HTC and Nokia revealed as 'successful smartphone vendors'Friday, February 5th 2010 A new report into the smartphone market has revealed Nokia and HTC to be strong players based on the success of their expanding handset portfolios. The worldwide smartphone market reached record levels during the fourth quarter of 2009, with HTC and Nokia highlighted by a new report as performing well.
IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report found that during this quarter 54.5 million units of mobile phones were shipped by vendors.
According to IDC, Nokia "ended the year the same way that it began: as the undisputed leader of converged mobile devices worldwide".
Its touchscreen smartphones drove revenue and profits, with the N97 mini, the 5800 and the 5530 models particularly successful. Furthermore, reduced prices on older models helped to increase its shipments.
The survey also stated that HTC has been brought to the fore after launching a new marketing campaign during the fourth quarter.
IDC said that HTC's Android-powered Eris and Hero proved strong additions to its smartphone portfolio.
Nokia is set to launch a marketing campaign of its own to promote the X6 16 GB smartphone as a contender to Apple's iPhone, Marketing Week recently revealed. |
